Protesters Gather Outside Supreme Court as Justices Hear Mississippi Abortion Case

Protesters gathered in Washington on December 1, as the United States Supreme Court heard a high-profile abortion rights case that held the potential to overturn decades of legal precedence.

The Mississippi law being challenged at the court bans most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. It has not yet taken effect because lower courts said it violated existing abortion laws, including the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade ruling.

Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the only abortion clinic in Mississippi, sued the state, saying that the ban places an undue burden on the right to procure the procedure.
