Rescue Operations Underway in Gansu, China, as Fatal Weather Strikes Ultramarathon

At least 21 people have died after extreme weather struck an ultramarathon in Gansu, China, on May 22, state media reported.

A “sudden change in local weather” caused hail and strong winds on Saturday afternoon, the report said. The 172 race participants were exposed to “physical discomfort and loss of temperature,” according to the report. The other 151 participants were confirmed safe, the report said.
