Severe flooding caused an “extensive amount of damage” to parts of West Virginia, prompting the Governor to declare a State of Emergency on August 15.

This footage, filmed by Joey Crist, shows muddy water cascading down a road in the small city of Smithers, West Viriginia.

Governor Jim Justice declared a State of Emergency in Kanawha and Fayette counties after between four to six inches of rain fell overnight, flooding several roads and damaging over 100 homes.

According to the National Weather Service “unsettled weather” was set to continue in the region for the rest of the week, with daily afternoon storms expected. Credit: Joey Crist via Storyful
