South Lake Tahoe residents on September 14 gathered to cheer and offer thanks to firefighters battling the Caldor Fire after the resort city’s evacuation order was lifted.

Local woman Angie Mizgireva filmed herself and others lifting signs and ringing bells to express their gratitude.

The city’s evacuation warning was lifted on September 12 after the Caldor Fire devastated nearby areas.

“In looking forward, I’m grateful that the City and Tahoe Basin were spared from the ravages of the Caldor Fire. We wholeheartedly recognize the value visitors bring to our economy and welcome them back to enjoy our beautiful city,” City Manager Joe Irvin said in a press release.

Mizgireva hailed the firefighters and other first responders as “our guardian angels” in a Facebook post.
