The Santibanez el Alto fire in Spain’s Extremadura region reached “danger level 2” on Wednesday, August 10, local authorities said.

Footage recorded by Ivan Ramirez shows the fire burning in the Sierra de Gata mountain range on Wednesday evening.

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Population, and Territory tweeted on Wednesday evening that the fire was classified at level 2, the second-highest danger level in the country’s wildfire classification system.

The Ministry said on Thursday that 120 firefighters were attending the blaze. Local media reported that the country’s army had been asked to help in the firefighting efforts.

The local media report added that authorities suspected that the fire was started “intentionally”. Credit: Ivan Ramirez via Storyful
