Storm on East Coast of England Buries Buildings and Vehicles in Sand

Storm winds buried property and vehicles in sand in the English villages of Bacton and Walcott on the northern Norfolk coast Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26, reports said.

The North Norfolk District Council recently completed a 22-million-pound “sandscaping” endeavor aimed at curbing coastal erosion, reports said. The project involved moving just under 2 million cubic meters of sand from the seabed to raise up area beaches and protect “key infrastructure” between Walcott and Bacton, and was hailed as an anti-erosion model for other seaside areas.

Local residents and business owners said sand got in “every nook and cranny,” according to interviews with the Eastern Daily Press. Reports said damage assessment and cleanup efforts were underway as of Monday. Credit: Jo Bigsby via Storyful
