New Zealand-based company Dawn Aerospace made a groundbreaking flight on November 12 when its Mk-II Aurora rocket-powered aircraft went supersonic, becoming the first civil aircraft to break the sound barrier since Concorde. The Aurora also shattered the highest climb rate record, ascending to about 66,000 feet in just 118.6 seconds – 4.2 seconds faster than the record set in the 1970s.
