The US Marine Corps commemorated its 246th birthday with a cake-cutting ceremony at Quantico, Virginia, on Wednesday, November 10, officials said on Facebook.

In video released by the Marines, a brass band played several patriotic songs and a birthday cake was cut with a special officer’s sword called a Mameluke.

The Second Continental Congress passed a resolution on November 10, 1775, that established the Continental Marines, “the predecessor to today’s Marine Corps,” according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
