Wind-Driven Rain Soaks Vero Beach as Hurricane Closes in on Florida

Florida’s west coast braced for the impact of a powerful hurricane carrying sustained winds of 155 mph and gusts up to 200 mph on Wednesday, September 28.

Hurricane Ian was a Category 4 storm by Wednesday morning and was located approximately 55 miles west of Naples at 8 am. Video posted to Twitter shows conditions in Vero Beach, on Florida’s east coast, on Wednesday morning.

Vero Beach was under a flood watch, a tropical storm warning, and a tornado watch at this time.

Vero Beach Police said three inches of rain had already fallen by 9:30 am.
