California’s Windy Fire had grown to 86,502 acres by the early hours of September 28, and was just 2 percent contained.

However, the Sequoia National Forest said crews were feeling “more optimistic” given the progress being made and an expected “reprieve in some weather conditions”.

The wildfire, burning in the Tule River Indian Reservation and the Sequoia National Forest, has prompted the deployment of over 2,400 personnel. Officials said the fire was threatening 2,000 residences and 100 commercial structures.
