A kitchen fire prompted a partial evacuation at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina on Wednesday, March 23, though airport officials said departures and arrivals continued as normal.

“Charlotte Fire is responding to a kitchen fire in the Atrium area,” said officials in a tweet on the airport’s account. “Passengers have been safely removed from the Atrium area to the concourses. The roadway in front of the terminal is currently closed to traffic for emergency crews.”

This footage shows smoke billowing out of the airport as firefighters extended a truck ladder toward the airport’s roof.

The fire was contained after about 40 minutes, airport officials said. About 20 minutes later, they said “passenger activity” resumed in the building. Credit: Mitch Simmons via Storyful
