Lego grabs bigger share of the declining toy market

STORY: Denmark-based Lego says its sales in

January through June rose 1% to $4 billion

By comparison, Lego sales grew

17% in 2022 and 27% in 2021

But that 1% increase comes as the global toy market dropped by 7%

Lego's consumer sales grew 3%, meaning it

grabbed market share from competitors

like Hasbro and Barbie-maker Mattel

The company has opened 89 new stores in the first

half of the year and plans to open around 60 more

More than half of the new store

openings in 2023 will be in China

Lego has not raised prices this year

and said it has no plans to do so
