Man arrested outside Buckingham Palace

STORY: Just days before King Charles' coronation...

a man has been arrested after throwing suspected shotgun cartridges into the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

Police said the suspect approached the King's London residence on Tuesday evening,

and threw the items before being detained by officers.

Police also carried out a controlled explosion in the area.

Neither the king nor his wife Camilla were at the palace at the time of the incident.

London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement, QUOTE:

"The man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon after he was searched and a knife was found."

The statement said police were not currently treating the matter as related to terrorism.

As coronation day approaches, the UK's security services are on high alert.

Saturday's event is expected to see large crowds line the streets of London,

and heads of state from around the world fly in to attend the formal ceremony.
