Meta developing new, more powerful AI system: WSJ

STORY: Meta is working on a new artificial-intelligence system.

And it's intended to be as powerful as the most advanced model offered by OpenAI - the maker of ChatGPT.

That was the report from the Wall Street Journal Sunday (September 10).

It said the AI model will be more powerful than its commercial version, known as Llama 2.

That is Meta's open source AI language model, launched in July to compete with ChatGPT and Google's Bard.

The Journal reported the planned system would help other companies build services that produce sophisticated text, analysis and other output.

The Facebook owner is reportedly aiming for the new model to be ready for next year.

Meta did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Businesses have been drawn to the generative AI market since the launch of ChatGPT late last year.

A Bloomberg report in July said tech giant Apple is also working on similar AI offerings.

It added Apple has built its own framework to create large language models and is testing a chatbot.
