Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky inspected military fortifications near Kharkiv on Tuesday April 9, as part of a working visit to the northeastern city amid an increase in Russian aerial attacks on the region.

“The Russians must see that we are ready to defend ourselves,” Zelensky said in a press statement released by the presidential office.

Footage released on Zelensky’s social media channels show the leader being guided around an extensive system of trenches and other fortifications.
