Sea Foam Blows Across Beach at Queensland's Iconic Surfers Paradise

Mounds of sea foam formed along beaches in northern New South Wales and southeast Queensland on December 14, including at the iconic Surfers Paradise, after a weekend of intense storms.

A storm cell caused heavy rain and damaging winds, prompting authorities to issue severe weather warnings for the region.

Sea foam typically forms in the aftermath of a storm. Wind agitates the ocean water, which is filled with dissolved organic matter such as dead algae and pollutants, creating bubbles and pockets of air, according to Oceanwatch Australia. Credit: @blog_pamela via Storyful
