New York taxi drivers shut down traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge during a protest for medallion debt relief on February 10.

Footage shared by Akin Geyrils shows traffic congestion across the bridge’s Brooklyn-bound lanes, which are gridlocked with yellow taxis and other vehicles.

Earlier in the day, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance organized a protest outside the mayor’s residence, Gracie Mansion, according to local news reports. Then, protesters drove down to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s residence, where they cheered after hearing his statement in support of debt relief, NY1 reported.

Many drivers owe hundreds of thousands of dollars on medallions bought before ride-sharing apps and COVID destroyed the industry, the alliance said. Credit: Akin Geyrils via Storyful
