Awa Tenondegua dos Santos/ Tribe leader

“We’re very happy because it was more than what we expected. In these three days over 1,000 people came so I’m happy to know it was a success. People left happy, we indigenous left happy - and non-indigenous as well. We’re happy because what’s happening is very important to share our culture, a little of our daily life, a little of our sport with non-indigenous people, so that they can better understand what it is to be an indigenous person, to break with prejudices”.

It's hoped the games will help break stereotypes about the Tapirema community

Juliana Do Prado, Indigenous athlete

“In these times where we are living, we still suffer a lot of racism, there are still many issues regarding invasions of our territory. I think that this (games) enhances our resistance, our culture, our force.”
