British shooter kills five, including young girl

British police on Friday (August 13) named 22-year-old Jake Davison as the man who went on a six-minute killing spree with a pump-action shotgun.

Davison, a crane operator, started shooting at around 6 p.m. local time on Thursday (August 12) and killed five people.

His first victim was a woman he knew in a house in the English city of Plymouth.

He then ran out of the house and immediately shot dead a very young girl who was walking her dog in the street, along with her male relative.

Davison shot at two other passers by who were badly injured, then entered a park and shot dead another man, before killing another woman.

He then turned the gun on himself before firearms officers could tackle him.

Shaun Sawyer, the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall police:

"We can confirm that Mr Davison is a firearms license holder. I am unable to confirm whether that was the firearm that was used... There is no motive as we know as present. That will be subject to inquiry but at the moment we are not considering terrorism or a relationship with any far-right group or any such other group but clearly he is on social media and that will be part of the investigation."

Sawyer could not say whether or not Davison had mental health issues.

In videos posted on the internet, Davison had complained of not losing his virginity as a teenager and described himself as an "incel" - or involuntary celibate.

He complained in the videos of being beaten down by life, local media reported.

The United Kingdom has one of the lowest gun homicide rates in the world. Thursday's incident was the country's first mass shooting in over a decade.
