Company behind Olympics LED display hopes for industry boost

The screen, which measured up to 14,000 square meters, was jointly developed by Leyard Optoelectronic Group and BOE Technology and other partners.

The Beijing Winter Games opened last Friday (February 4) night in a snow and ice themed ceremony at the Bird's Nest stadium, with the LED ground display exhibiting a myriad of visuals to complement the performances.

Wang Jia Zhi, chief of technology for the Winter Olympics project in Leyard Optoelectronic Group, told Reuters that he hope the application of the ground LED system during the opening ceremony could bolster the overall LED industry.

"As a mode of display, in future events it can be put to use more often, in cultural events or activities," said Wang.
