Musk recently made two sales after a Twitter poll last weekend. He sold $5 billion worth of stock and then $700 million, according to regulatory filings.

The stock-sale came as Tesla shares vaulted to a more than $1 trillion market cap.

Shares of Tesla are up 45 percent year-to-date.
