Polar bears frolic in central Canada

Polar bears can be found throughout Canada. Churchill, Manitoba is recognized as one of the three largest polar bear maternity denning areas in the world, according to Canadian Geographic magazine.

There are reportedly 25,000 to 30,000 polar bears in the world. Sixty percent of these live in Canada. Arctic-wide polar bears were labeled a 'threatened species' in 2008 by the United States under the Endangered Species Act, due to the ongoing and potential loss of sea ice in the polar bears' natural habitat resulting from climate change.
