Raducanu defeated in first match since Grand Slam

British tennis champion Emma Raducanu lost her first match since her stunning Grand Slam win at the U.S. Open last month.

She crashed out of the Indian Wells tournament on Friday (October 8) after a defeat by Belarussian player Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

18-year-old Raducanu said she was disappointed but not discouraged by the loss.

She cited the difference in experience between the players as the main factor in her inability to force a deciding set.

Raducanu said the experience would, "come in time" and that she would, quote, "keep going and get my head back to the drawing board."

Despite the loss, the Grand Slam champion added that she will hold her head high and try to learn as much as she can from it - and commended fellow athlete Sasnovich for her win.

Prior to the tournament, Raducanu had said she planned on competing at a number of tournaments this year, including the WTA 250 event in Austria next month, with hopes of making the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, Mexico.

For now, she said she plans to return home to England and re-group.
