STORY: These volunteers are distributing snacks to fasting Saudis

They hope the packages of food will encourage people not to speed

as they rush home at sundown for iftar

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SAUDI VOLUNTEER, SAGER AL ANZAN, SAYING:

“I’m volunteering here to distribute food to fasting people on the street. Honestly, it’s a good thing and makes me happy. I participated last year and it felt good, so I said I’ll do it this year and in the future. A person can be rewarded by God, it also makes people happy and gives them patience until they get home.”

The Ramadan initiative is part of a wider campaign

called ‘The Happiness of Our People’

The volunteers hand out 600 boxes a day in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam
