Russia appears to hold military exercises in Baltic Sea

STORY: The ministry's statement said naval tactical groups of Russia's Baltic Fleet had left their bases and deployed fleet groupings in 'designated areas'.

The fleet's press service reported that corvettes, patrol boats, missile boats, frigates, minesweepers, as well as landing craft and speedboats are involved in the exercises.

The Russian navy drills come as fourteen NATO countries conduct the BALTOPS 22 naval drills in the Baltic region from June 5-17. According to a NATO statement the drills see fourteen NATO allies plus Sweden and Finland taking part.
