Tokyo residents sweat it out in fall heatwave

STORY: Many office workers were still seen wearing short-sleeved shirts, a business fashion that Japan usually adopts during summer, as the temperature in central Tokyo was observed as 32.9 degrees Celsius (91.2 Fahrenheit) by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

"I was hoping that it could get a little cooler so that I'm able to wear layers and look stylish, but that's not the case. I still sweat a lot when I move around, so it’s a bit tough," said restaurant manager Takane Akiyama.

According to public broadcaster NHK, 2023 has seen 90 days with summer heat observed in central Tokyo, the highest record of summer days in a year.

"I had prepared long-sleeved shirts at home, but since the temperature is still quite high, I decided to wear short sleeves," said office worker Yuki Hayashi.
