COVID cases rise in Beijing

STORY: The Chinese capital reported 99 new cases were detected on May 22, up from 61 the previous day, with authorities extending work-from-home guidance for many of its 22 million residents to stem the stubborn but small outbreak.

Residents were also seen queueing in hot weather for tests in Chaoyang, the city's largest district.

"We support mass testing. But there aren’t many testing sites and the service isn’t good enough. The operating hours also need to be extended," said a 66 year-old resident who gave his surname as Wang. "However, we know that medical staff are working very hard. And as soon as we can get through this, we will be fine.

Stores along the street, commercial squares, and entertainment venues remain closed, while many community compounds are requiring residents to register for "electronic passes" to enter their home.
