Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano Spews Molten Rock into Lava Lake

Footage from the US Geological Survey (USGS) of the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island shows continuous lava flow into a “lava lake” on the night of Sunday, December 27, almost a week after the volcano erupted.

This video captures Strombolian eruptions from the volcano and lava cascades from the western fissure vent, as eruption within Halema‘uma‘u crater continues.

According to the USGS, Strombolian eruptions cause “huge clots of molten lava to burst from the summit crater, forming luminous arcs through the sky.” Credit: @USGSVolcanoes via Storyful
