A fire destroyed the Ocoee Whitewater Center in Polk County, Tennessee, in the early hours of April 26, officials said.

The center, about 100 miles north of Atlanta, hosted such events as the world’s first Olympic whitewater event on a natural river, during the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, before it later became a popular tourist destination, according to official information.
