STORY: The route for the 43rd edition of the Dakar Rally was announced on Wednesday (November 25).

The race will be held in Saudi Arabia between January 3 and 15, starting and ending in Jeddah.

The race covers 7,646kms, including 4,767 kms of special stages, continuing the exploration of the Saudi deserts begun last year.

A strong field of competitors have entered, with 321 vehicles on the start list. In addition to the 108 motorbikes, 21 quads, 124 cars and SUVs and 42 trucks expected at the start, 26 vehicles have been entered for a regularity competition in the new "Dakar Classic" category, open to cars and trucks built prior to 2000.

The car section of the 2020 edition was won by Carlos Sainz of Spain, while American Ricky Brabec took the motorcycle class.
