Mount Agung in Bali, Indonesia, hurled plumes of smoke and ash on November 27, creating torrents of mud made up of volcanic debris, known as “cold lava” or “lahar.”

Indonesian officials said that 100,000 people around the area were told to evacuate. So far only 40,000 have moved away from the volcano, according to the Guardian.

Thousands were also left stranded after Ngurah Rai International Airport closed due to severe volcano warnings. Credit: Instagram/iron_jagad via Storyful
