Aid Trucks Burn Amid Clashes Between Aid Convoys and Venezuelan Military

Venezuelan civilians carried humanitarian aid by hand as trucks burned on a bridge in Cucuta, Colombia, following clashes with Venezuelan National Police on Saturday, February 23.

This video, streamed from Colombia’s border with Venezuela in Cucuta, shows civilians running with sacks of aid supplies over their shoulders as flames lick the chassis of a truck.

Earlier video from the same bridge captured clashes between Venezuelan police and civilians as the convoy sought to push across the border. The scene devolved into panic when gunshots rang out.

Similar confrontations erupted Friday and Saturday after Juan Guaidó, the country’s opposition leader and self-declared interim president, called for nationwide rallies. On Friday, civilians fought with soldiers near Tunel La Cabreba in Aragua, Venezuela, after the military sought to prevent trucks from driving to the border to receive aid shipments.
