The famous canals of Venice, Italy, remained almost completely empty during the coronavirus lockdown on April 1, despite favorable weather which would typically draw tourists and residents.Since the country went into lockdown on March 9, hotels, restaurants, cafés and most businesses have been shut, while residents were ordered to stay inside and avoid travel.Thelocal.it also reported on March 19 that the canals were “running clear” without the usual boat traffic that polluted the water.
