Black Lives Matter protests in New York City that were described as “peaceful” were followed by looting of stores across midtown Manhattan on Monday, June 1, according to reports.

Footage recorded by Anton Ponomarev shows scenes of civil unrest, including people stealing goods from a tourist gift shop, a Duane Reade drugstore, and Urban Outfitters.

More than 200 people in the city were arrested late Monday and early Tuesday morning after protests following the police-involved death of George Floyd.

Several stores, including the flagship Macy’s store on 34th Street were also damaged despite a city-wide curfew and increased police presence. Credit: Anton Ponomarev via Storyful
