Mount Washington Weather Observer Steps Into 105 MPH Wind Gusts

A weather observer at the Mount Washington Observatory stepped out into wind gusts of 105 mph on Friday, November 10, on the coldest day of the season so far at the New Hampshire summit.

Tom Padham, the observer seen in the video, explains the temperatures were at -2 F with a wind chill of -40. Padham then steps outside and stands in the wind, which pushes him back several times.

Record low temperatures swept across the northeast on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, the Mount Washington summit recorded temperatures of 6 degrees in the late morning with wind gusts of 51 miles per hour. The wind chill was at -21 F.
