Quarantine in My Calvins: Man Converts Boxer Briefs Into Makeshift Face Mask

Elmhurst, New York, resident Arnie Gonzalez recorded himself turning a pair of Calvin Klein boxer briefs into a makeshift face mask on April 2, to demonstrate how the underwear could double as a shield from coronavirus.

“The video was just a little something to maintain a light in the dark time,” Gonzalez, who lost his father to the virus last week, told Storyful. As of April 10, coronavirus has killed 7,844 people in New York State.

The video shows Gonzales as he places the boxer briefs on his head, and with a few twists and turns of the fabric, he is able to create a face mask.

Gonzales told Storyful the isolation period has made it very hard for his family to get closure from the passing of his father, but that he has a 4-year-old son and said, “this was a little video I made to make him laugh.” Credit: Arnie Gonzalez via Storyful
