Swarms of locusts were filmed at Karbabad Beach in Manama, Bahrain, on February 20, as an infestation of the insects has swept the Horn of Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, according to local reports.

The Bahrain News Agency reported that teams from the Plant Protection and Quarantine section of the kingdom’s Agriculture and Marine Resources Department are spraying the locust-affected areas.

The insects were reported to have devastated crops in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and other countries, and the UN warned on February 10 that the locusts were placing “millions at risk of hunger.”

The swarm has been described by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan as “the worst locust attack in decades” as the swarms moved eastwards toward China. Credit: Al-Eskafi via Storyful
