New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the state had risen to 729 on Sunday, March 14, with three deaths reported.

The governor made the announcement as he called on private businesses to “aggressively consider voluntary closings and allow employees to work from home” in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

Cuomo said all non-essential state employees in New York City, Rockland, Westchester, and Long Island were asked to stay home and work from home.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio had issued a state of emergency on Friday, placing occupancy and spatial limits on the city’s large venues, and canceling “all existing and future events exceeding a capacity of over 500 people until further notice.”
