Five campsites near Dune du Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe, were destroyed on July 19, after wildfires tore through southwest France, according to officials in Gironde.

Footage filmed by Twitter user Benjamin Brudno shows some of the extent of the damage caused by the wildfires. Burnt trees, destroyed buildings, including the Camping des Flots Bleus site, are visible as he drives past.

Local news said the five campsites were “90 percent destroyed” by the flames. No deaths or casualties were reported.

According to the Department of Gironde, wildfires have burned 20,600 hectares (about 80 square miles) and forced the evacuation of about 36,750 people since July 12. Credit: Benjamin Brudno via Storyful
