Motorists in eastern New Mexico were faced with challenging road conditions as flash flooding obscured parts of a highway in Chaves County on Saturday, August 20.

This footage was captured by Joe Marquez, who said he filmed it on Highway 71, between Roswell and Hondo, on Saturday afternoon.

Marquez said he was reluctant to continue driving when he realized how bad the flooding became but eventually went for it.

“I initially pulled over and watched a smaller car go through. My vehicle was much larger, so I decided to go. Probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do,” he said.
