Florida Police Save Baby Choking on a Cracker

Officers at the Kissimmee Police Department in Florida saved an infant’s life after he choked on a cracker at his home on Saturday, October 19.

The 1-year-old boy, MJ, swallowed the cracker and “began to choke” before “turning blue,” his mother, Amanda Zimmerman, said in a Facebook post.

“Nothing I did was working and I could see he was starting to turn blue. In a panic, I ran outside to try and get help and amazingly there was a cop car coming down my street,” she said.

This video shows officers repeatedly thumping the child’s back as a hysterical Zimmerman is consoled by police.

Eventually, officers were able to make MJ “gasp,” Zimmerman said. A police report of the incident also said officers were able to get the “baby breathing,” however, emergency services were called to transport MJ to the hospital.

“After a day in ICU, I am thankful and greatful [sic] to say that my son has made a full recovery,” Zimmerman wrote.

“To all the officers on scene, the EMT team, the nurses, emergency room doctors, ICU doctors, I can never express or put into words how thankful I am,” Zimmerman wrote. Credit: Kissimmee Police Department via Storyful
