A group of polar stratospheric clouds appeared over Iceland on December 28, according to the
Icelandic Meteorological Office. The video shows the colorful phenomenon in Reykjavik.

Local Serena Dzenis said she filmed the video from her living room. She told Storyful the clouds were in the sky for a large part of the day.

According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, polar stratospheric clouds form “when the stratosphere is unusually cold (around or below -70 to -90 C), and are composed of ice crystals, or of ice crystal compounds and nitric acid hydrates” and can signal ozone depletion.
