A videographer captured mesmerizing aerial views near the town of Grindavik, Iceland, on Wednesday, May 29, as new volcanic activity prompted the closure of the popular Blue Lagoon spa and evacuation of surrounding areas.

Drone footage captured by videographer Bjorn Steinbekk shows volcanic activity at Sundhnukur crater in the Reykjanes peninsula on Wednesday afternoon.

Around the same time, police urged residents “in or near Grindavík” to leave the area and get to a safe distance.

By Wednesday evening local time, “considerable magma jet activity” was observed in the main part of the crater, according to Icelandic Meteorological authorities. Credit: Bjorn Steinbekk via Storyful
