The iconic sails of Australia’s Sydney Opera House were illuminated with a new digital art projection and soundscape on October 19, marking the start of the venue’s yearlong 50th anniversary celebration.

The 17-minute projection titled “From the Sails: Light Years” was created by Sam Doust and Art Processors, and features images from the building’s construction and opening in 1973, as well as clips of performances from artists such as Bangarra Dance Theatre, The Australian Ballet, Lizzo, and Kraftwerk.

The show will be held from sunset to 11 pm October 19 through 30, according to Sydney Opera House, and can be viewed in person or via the opera house’s livestream.

The opera house promises a further 230 events and experiences over the next year in the lead-up to its 50th anniversary in October of 2023.
