The Cumbre Vieja volcano’s inner cone collapsed on Tuesday, October 26, after earlier damage produced new lava flows across the Spanish island of La Palma, according to the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute.

Footage filmed by the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute shows the collapse and increased activity on Tuesday evening into the night. The third clip shows a lava fountain reaching approximately 600 meters (1,969 feet) into the air, the institute wrote.

Lava flow from the volcano had covered more than 906 hectares (3.5 square miles) of the island and destroyed at least 2,162 buildings as of Monday, the EU’s Copernicus Emergency Management Service said. Credit: Canary Islands Volcanology Institute via Storyful
