Wild horses brought traffic to a stop as they crossed a road near the New Mexico village of Rudioso on December 19.

Shirley Estes captured the moment on camera, telling Storyful it was a common sight to see animals on the roads around Rudioso and that where she lives, the wildlife are “given right of way”.

“We were on our usual Sunday drive,” Estes said, adding that she and her husband “always stay aware of wildlife that may suddenly cross the road, or even walk down the middle of our roads.”
