An Italian musician put on a special performance on a Venice canal on May 16 as Italy began its slow return to normal life after more than two months of near-total shutdown.

This footage shows pianist Paolo Zanarella performing on a boat to the backdrop of famous Venice landmarks.

Shops, bars, restaurants, hairdressers, libraries, churches and museums were allowed to reopen across Italy on May 18, though travel between regions was not due to begin until June 3.

Italy was also due to reopen to tourists from within Europe on June 3, and the tourists would no longer be subject to a two-week quarantine upon entry, thelocal.it reported. Credit: Paolo Zanarella via Storyful
