Rare Waves in Lake Michigan Look Like Ocean Swells

Large waves on lake Michigan gave the appearance of oceans swells on June 15, as a beach hazards was in place for the area.

The source of this footage, Nate’s Dronography, told Storyful, "a rare June cooldown affected millions in the US. The system brought deadly tornados in the south and strong winds In the north.

“This is Lake Michigan and it looked like the ocean. The Saint Joseph … lighthouse was getting slammed,” he said.

The City of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management & Communications warned of high waves and dangerous currents on Lake Michigan, with waves from four to seven feet.

“Please remain out of the water and do not venture onto piers, jetties, break walls, or other shoreline structures,” the agency said. Credit: Nate’s Dronography via Storyful
