Britons evacuated from Sudan arrive in Cyprus

A British military transport plane carrying the first group of civilian U.K. nationals evacuated from Sudan arrived in Cyprus late Tuesday after the British government announced the start of an evacuation effort.Some 40 British nationals including infants and small children were processed at Cyprus’ Joint Rescue Coordination Center adjacent to the east Mediterranean island nation’s main Larnaca airport, before being bussed to accommodations where they will stay overnight before their repatriation.Cyprus on Tuesday set in motion a plan designed to assist in the repatriation of foreign citizens from crisis areas.Under the plan, Cypriot authorities offer facilities to help repatriate foreign nationals from the island.
