Lodi wine makers concerned about late harvest

Winemakers and grape growers have been looking forward to this year's harvest due to the wet winter that northern California experienced, but as we near mid-August, grapes are still on the vine and there's a concern about a late harvest. The delay is due to this spring's cooler temperatures. It's a relief from last year for winemakers and grape growers like Charlie Hamilton, a vineyard operation manager in Lodi. Hamilton, who grows about 60 different varietals of wine grapes, said last year's heat stopped their fruit from ripening. The challenge this year is a three-week delay in their harvest. While the delayed season could make for great 2023 California wine, it also makes winemakers and grape growers, nervous.
